Wanted: Volunteer Fundraising Officer
Would you like to help the Society progress a number of exciting projects over the next few years? First up will be the major overhaul of the Society’s flagship loco, our unique LNER B12 class 4-6-0. We also plan to begin the restoration of a 1907 GER Brake 3rd coach which will be an important addition to our fleet of historic rolling stock as well as providing much needed capacity for carrying disabled passengers comfortably on vintage trains on the NNR. These will be expensive projects – overhauling the B12 could cost in excess of £300,000 and the restoration of the coach chassis alone is expected to cost at least £50,000. Our strategic plan provides for other one-off projects that are consistent with our objectives.
We are looking for a volunteer or volunteers to help raise funds through nationally and locally available grants, including the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Ideally, you will have had experience with another organisation in identifying potential sources of grant funding and in applying for that funding. We have future fundraising that will be required for all of the locomotives as they are due their rebuilds, as well as other projects. The Society would look to you for guidance on whether to employ fund raising professionals for this or any other project and you would coordinate that professional input. If this appeals to you, please contact Richard Spicker, the Society Secretary, at richard.spicker@mandgn.org in the first instance and he will put you in touch with members of our team who can tell you more about our plans.
