VOLUNTEERS WANTED!

Would you be able to give up some of your time to help run the Society and some of its activities? We are looking for additional volunteers in these areas:-

Meetings Coordinator - we urgently need a person or persons to help run the meetings of the Society’s board of trustees. Liaising with the Society’s Chair, the role involves preparing the agenda for at least 6 board meetings a year, distributing the papers for those meetings and attending the meetings and minuting them. This is a very important and interesting role, providing an insight into the management of the Society. You would see at first hand how decisions critical to the future of the Society are formulated and can expect to be asked for your opinion on a variety of matters. Full training in the role will be provided.

Museum Steward - to join a team of volunteers who open the Society's William Marriott Museum at Holt to visitors on days that the NNR is operating. By showing visitors some of the highlights of the collection and answering their queries, you will get a fascinating insight not only into the history of railways in East Anglia, but also past and current NNR and Society operations. You would be able to choose the days that suit you and you would receive full training from the museum curator and other stewards.

Cottage Steward - the Society's railway cottage at Holt provides a unique insight into an unusual aspect of railway social history and is a very popular attraction in its own right. We are keen to recruit additional volunteers to ensure that the cottage is open to the public on all days that the NNR is running train services. You would learn about the history and preservation of the cottage and be part of a friendly team passing that knowledge on to visitors. Full training would be given.

If any of these roles interest you, please contact Richard Spicker by emailing him at

richard.spicker@mandgn.org or by telephoning him on 07747 821606 and he will put you in touch with the relevant head of department
