'Type Two' in the Works

The Society'sClass 31Diesel Electric locomotive, D5631 has been receiving attention in Weybourne works over the winter. Along with routine examinations and maintenance, the engine has been temporarily withdrawn following the discovery of a broken component within the power plant.

A broken bridge piece was discovered inside the 'B' Bank of cylinders, this being a machined casting which has now reached the end of its working life. Thankfully our investment in spares for the Class 31 has paid off yet again, with a spare immediately sourced from the stores.

Whilst the railway has been in shutdown, D5631 has still been earning revenue and has worked driver training turns along with shunting for the Railway between stations - very much a working locomotive and a useful asset in the closed season. With 25057 out of traffic undergoing several repairs and Class 37 D6732 stored for the winter, D5631 is the NNR's first port of call.

All repairs are expected to be completed shortly and the locomotive will be on standby for the NNR'sSpring Steam Galaon Friday 7th, Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th March, should it be required for emergency duties. Don't forget, you can keep up to date with all North Norfolk Railway diesel news through theWeybourne Traction Group.
