After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in Boston, Lincolnshire in 1985 and working at KPMG in Leicester for three years, I spent the rest of my professional financial life working for national charities including Mencap, RSPB and Wildlife Trusts and non-profit making organisations - Nottingham Playhouse and The King's (The Cathedral) School Peterborough.
As a teenager in the 1970s I was interested in all aspects of railway operations, but at that time it was diesel and electric traction. When my wife organised a Steam Driver Experience at the Nene Valley Railway for my 50th Birthday an interest in steam railway preservation began. Since 2019 I have assisted the Society's Treasurer in preparing the annual report, and more recently, the quarterly management accounts, together with monitoring the society's investments.
I live in Lincolnshire with my wife, where we are fosterers for the local branch of the Cats Protection. My other interests include natural history, the countryside and sport, particularly cricket.
