The North Norfolk Railway (NNR) operating company was formed to operate and manage passenger services on the line.
In 1973, the company was granted a light railway order and began running trains from Sheringham to Weybourne, and from 1989, to Holt.
The North Norfolk Railway owns all the land, structures and track along the 5¼ mile line along with much of the 1950s BR Mk.I coaching stock that is used on most passenger trains. The M&GN Joint Railway Society is the NNR plc's majority shareholder.
The company also owns several locomotives, including 16” Hunslet 0-6-0ST Ring Haw, Class 25 25057, a Class 101 DMU along with several more freight and permanent way wagons and a 10 Ton Grafton Steam Crane.
The NNR is dependent on around 500 volunteers to run the railway, and many of these are members of the M&GN Joint Railway Society.
